December 19th, 2009.The day in which Gotham City fell into its own dark age.

Gotham. The word used to bring to mind images of a glorious, thriving city. Now the city is on the ground, and crime is thriving like the rats.

Arkham Asylum. The long-surviving establishment served as both a treatment facility for the mentally unsound and an infamous penitentiary for the criminally insane. Now, its patients run rampant through the city.

Welcome to Gotham's darkest hour...dawn doesn't seem to be coming any time soon.

A private company founded in the 18th century, Wayne Enterprises has always been one of Gotham's greatest economical assets, providing thousands of jobs along with international esteem. Managed by the prestigious Wayne family for generations, it contains many separate commercial branches including, but not limited to: medical, aerospace, and entertainment.

Ace Chemical Processing Plant is one of the few large scale companies still operating at the same level it was before crime escalated in Gotham. Many citizens - and a few criminals - have a sort of fondness for the plant.

Gotham General Hospital, rebuilt after the infamous explosion, once had the best equipment and staff that could be found. Now it's fallen into disrepair and doctors that chose to stay are lacking in most departments.

The Gotham Police Department was once a force to be reckoned with when it came to the crime in the city. Now, however, the police ranks in the city seem to be composed mostly of corrupt cops or ones that would rather remain behind a desk.

Robinson Park, located in the impoverished area of South Gotham, is an abundance of green - even in the water. Not much of a park for lover's lanes or children, it does, however, attract less innocent sorts of people.

Parishoners of the once thriving church seem to have disappeared as of late. A few devoted faithful still come around for weekly vigils, and others wander through in search of some sense of peace. Rumor has it that those seeking protection from the villains of the city can find it here.

Monarch Theater was an old fashioned movie house located not far from the Park Row district in Gotham City. The cinema eventually closed its dorrs and fell into delapidation, but since that time it has been become one of many safehouses used by the mad Prince of Crime.

The Bristol Country Club once hosted some of the most expensive and extravagant parties in Gotham's history. Now, as most of the wealthy citizens have left the city, the Mob controls events here - you'll be sure to find wild times here.

A trendy Gotham City nightclub owned by Oswald Cobblepot . The two-story, 12,800-square-foot restaurant and lounge included a large pool for pet seals and penguins in the center dining area, an iceberg-like sculpture in the pool, a ship themed dancefloor, and polar decor. It has remained largely intact despite the earthquake, and business is still good.

The seediest, grittiest part of Gotham. It is highly dangerous and dilapidated and has become even more so in wake of the disaster. Gothamites view The Narrows as the city's slums. The area is located on an island in the middle of Gotham River between Midtown and Downtown, connected to Gotham by three drawbridges and a tunnel. Arkham Asylum is located in this area, at the East end of the Narrows. After the earthquake, it was the site of an attempted evacuation, in hopes of protecting the sane inhabitants from the mass breakout at Arkham.

The streets of Gotham city, though cracked, broken, and more dangerous than ever, are still alive with people who are trying to survive the turmoil. There are still a few businesses, some less than reputable, along these lanes. The majority of the shopfronts, however, are just empty shells.

This rubble is all that is left standing in the section of Arkham that was destroyed by the earthquake. One wall and parts of the ceiling are missing, exposing it to the elements. It's chained off from the rest of the Asylum, but that won't stop a curious doctor or a rule-breaking patient.

00
[ ][image]
Therapists may retreat to their soundproof offices to escape the terrors and chaos of the asylum. Weekly sessions with patients are also held within these rooms. Furniture is minimalistic and bolted down. Decoration and personalization is forbidden.

Located in the dirty south of Gotham, the long-standing apartment building has housed everyone from pimps to villains and been infected with everything from cockroaches to smilex. In wake of the disaster, Floor 7 has rain damage and Floor 12 is mostly rubble. There are plenty of vacancies on the other levels, though.

The houses of the Brentwood neighborhood range in size and status from one room shacks on the edge of the city to family style ranches fit for five. The heroes and villains usually stay away from this neighborhood - there's just nothing to do.
