``LIKE A DOG CHASING CARS[/i][/color]
And so, he ran.
The world around him seemed to be nothing but a hideous masterpiece derived from a nightmare's sullen brush in the ethereal. But that thought alone could not quell the Batman’s subconscious. All around the myth, media scratched the surfaces of Gotham City’s gaze, and tangled theories and webs of hearsay bled slowly into the synapses of every inhabitant left awake at this dark night’s late hour. He knew what it was the world was starting to whisper, knew how each porcelain domino would carefully fall onto its hind side and shatter at the toe of his boot. He had tried so hard to be devoid of this pattern. All he wanted to do was provoke a symbol: a symbol of hope, of a panic-free existence, and a world without fear. If one were to look into the sky and see the signal—his signal—they would know Gotham was to rest assured, safe.
Now, all they would see was what the newscasters and ink splayed on hot presses spoon-fed them…
It has been three months since the running began. Three months since Gotham had turned on its axis, and the hero known as Batman was no longer such. For miserable weeks, headlines had held titles relative to “BADMAN?” and “FOE OR BIGGER FOE?” Alfred Pennyworth had spent hours burning considerably large stacks of newsprint and string, as though each stack brought nothing but harsh news to the eyes of his master, Bruce Wayne. It was only outside of the illustriously rebuilt Wayne Manor that things were looking up, and Gotham seemed to have a bright future ahead of it.
Lilyana Daniels, once known as an aspiring lawyer, now holds the title of Gotham’s DA. She, Mayor Garcia, and the entirety of the Gotham City Police Department, have been working hastily to make the city something of a better place. The people, naturally, have a way of thinking differently. Some prefer the vigilante; some miss the decidedly “deceased” Harvey Dent, while others believe that they are all seemingly better off without the both of them. So, it is now that the majority will come together to look to their three last beacons of hope: Lilyana, Mayor Garcia, and Commissioner Jim Gordon.
But deep in the outskirts of Gotham City, the future looks slightly different, contorted. After all, there is never good without bad.
